Working with the Lake Champlain Housing Development Corporation, Arnold and Scangas Architects designed a new affordable housing development in Burlington. This project involved the redevelopment of a former gas station and brownfield site. Taking advantage of the sloped site, we proposed six one bedroom units backing into the slope, and six townhouses on the uphill side of the site. The project requirements included securing City of Burlington Zoning, Planning Commission and Design Review Permits as well as the ACT 250 permit from the State of Vermont. The project’s goals to increase density in Burlington, provide affordable homes, contribute positively to a street edge in a blighted area were met.
